Who am I to say how to hire the right business coach?
Hi .. I am Laura Hulleman—Business and Marketing Strategist and Creator of the Endotype Formula
I’ve been a business owner for 25 years, build 5 profitable businesses, and been coaching for over 16 years. In that time, I’ve hired and been hired by countless coaches. I’ve also interviewed hundreds of coaches on my Raving Coaches podcast, gaining insights into the highs and lows of coaching and business growth.
Through all these years, I’ve heard the same story over and over: coaches who invest in business coaches, only to end up with bad advice and wasted time and money. Don't get me wrong, when you find the right coach it can transform your business. But it can be a challenge to know the great coaches from the ones that don't align with you, tell you things that aren't true, and want you to fit into their framework, robbing you from building a business of your own.
Below are some of the bad advice and biggest mis-truths I have heard. Remember, just because the industry accepts these as true, doesn't mean they are.
If you think your clients are exactly like you, you're missing the mark. Your ideal clients likely are very different from you in some key ways, specifically their Endotype. Understanding their needs, not just reflecting your own, is the key to attracting and retaining clients.
Forcing yourself to make up a niche or ideal client is just a waste of time. It is so much more important to know the problem you solve, the way your clients talk about that problem and your unique strengths you bring as part of your personality—then who you serve will become obvious.
Don’t base your pricing on what others are doing. Your rates are a combination of the value you provide, your experience, and the transformation you offer—not what your competitors are doing.
Aggressive outreach tactics like cold DMs just feel icky, and force you to play a numbers game when it comes to sales. Focus on building authentic relationships first—even if that is online (Don’t know how to do that? Just ask, I have answers)
There’s no one-size-fits-all coaching program. Surrendering your power and decision making to a bossy business coach is a recipe for burnout, frustration, and you will end up with a business you HATE. Build a business that’s truly, uniquely yours.
After watch this bad advice hurt so many coaches, I decided to create this guide to help.
Whether you decide to work with me or someone else, I want you to know exactly what to look for, what questions to ask, and how to avoid the mistakes I’ve seen too many coaches make.
I want you to hire a coach who understands you, not just another so-called “expert” who’s going to give you more of the same, generic advice.
You deserve to work with a coach who understands you—one who can help you create a business that feels authentic and sustainable.
Download the guide today and stop wasting time and money on coaches who can't get you any closer to your vision.
